AI Generated Content for Websites and Its Consequences:

AI Generated Content for Websites and Its Consequences-

More than 49 websites have been identified by NewsGuard to be entirely made up of content using AI chatbots such as ChatGPT. AI-generated content for websites is becoming more and more common.

Artificial intelligence chatbots and tools have now become popular among the masses to do basic tasks such as writing essays, building websites, generating content, and so on. It was long predicted that the age of AI will bring about a technological revolution entirely dependent on such tools.

Since the rise of AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, Bing, and more, this prediction is starting to take shape as the reality of today. AI-generated content is being used everywhere. From writing assignments to even writing tech and news-related articles.

As reported by the NewsGuard, around 49 websites were detected that were AI-generated content for their websites. These websites span across seven different languages including English, Czech, French, Thai, Chinese, and more.

Such websites can be detected through a number of different methods. One simple method to detect them is that they are likely to not have ownership of the articles and the contents of the article can be on a wide variety of topics including politics, sports, technology, and more. You can expect websites like these to publish a bunch of articles in a day. Some even post over a hundred articles every day.

The information provided by such websites is not always reliable and is not verified before publishing. This can often lead to false news circulating around the web.

Many big companies such as Google have also commented that using AI-generated content is against the guidelines of Google’s Webmaster. Using AI-generated content seems like a quick fix but can often lead to unfavorable circumstances.

Consequences of AI-Generated Content:

Websites using AI-generated content show that slowly but eventually, AI is becoming an increasingly popular tool to provide quick fixes and supply content to generate traffic and revenue.

AI might have improved tremendously in the last couple of months. But it still can not be compared to human ability. The ability to detect right from wrong and understand false information is a quality unique to human beings.

The content generated by AI has its consequences. Some of these consequences are discussed below.

  • Fake Content:

One of the major issues regarding AI-generated content is that it has the ability to produce fake content and sell it in the market. There are websites that are writing over 100 articles a day. This can not be possible without fake news getting in the way.

Of course, not all of the news generated by these websites is fake. However, it can be said that the content you get from such sites is unreliable and faulty.

  • Copied Content:

The AI-generated content that you will find on a website is more likely than not copied from other websites. An AI chatbot, such as ChatGPT gets its information from across the web and provides no real value or meaning to the content on such websites.

In other words, the content on such websites is likely to be only a rewritten or copied version of something that already exists on the web.

  • Unreliable Writer:

AI might be the next big thing. But it is a technology that is in its developmental phase. The important thing to understand about AI is that it does not have a mind of its own. AI chatbots use the data provided to them and make informed guesses accordingly.

This does not mean that the output generated by these chatbots is going to be correct or reliable every time.  One of the main concerns that makes AI generated content is the fact that it is unreliable and likely to have faults.

AI-generated content is unlikely to be fact-checked which makes it unreliable. Thus, the content you find on such websites can be misleading and false.

  • No Editors in Sight:

The content generated by AI is neither fact-checked nor verified. This makes AI-generated content highly faulty. A normal reader will not be able to tell the difference between the content written by a human being and something that is written by a chatbot.

However, this does not mean that the content written by AI is always going to be better than the ones written by a human. In fact, one of the most underlying factors about AI-generated content is that there is no originality.

Everything you get from AI-generated articles is an opinion that is already present on some websites around the web that the AI used and rephrased.

In short, with AI-generated content, you are unlikely to get anything new or valuable for your reading.

  • Mis-info Bots:

AI bots are not built to spread misinformation. However, one of the major uses of AI chatbots is to generate false or clickbait information.

Websites that use AI-generated content work to generate information that can help make them make quick cash and the best way to do so is to make click-worthy content.

This is why many websites have started using AI chatbots to make content that can be used to spread misinformation.

AI is becoming increasingly useful in all walks of life. From providing useful information to making search engines easier to operate. There are too many ways you can use AI and its related tools.

However, AI-generated content can not replace human capability and understanding. This is why instead of using AI to generate complete articles, it can be used to make better-informed decisions and generate better content quality by the writers themselves.
